Creating Discounts

Setting Up Discounts

Cartly's discount engine supports multiple discount types with flexible conditions and limits to run promotions effectively.

Discount Types

  • Percentage — A percentage off the order or specific items (e.g., 20% off)
  • Fixed Amount — A fixed monetary discount (e.g., $10 off)
  • Free Shipping — Waives the shipping cost for qualifying orders

Creating a Discount

Navigate to Discounts in the sidebar and click Create Discount. Fill in:

  1. Code — The discount code customers enter at checkout (e.g., SUMMER20). Leave blank for automatic discounts that apply without a code.
  2. Type — Select percentage, fixed amount, or free shipping
  3. Value — The discount amount (percentage or cents)
  4. Applies to — Entire order, specific collections, or specific products

Conditions

Add conditions to control when the discount can be used:

  • Minimum order amount — The cart must reach a minimum total before the discount applies
  • Minimum quantity — A minimum number of items must be in the cart
  • Customer groups — Restrict the discount to specific customer groups (e.g., VIP, Wholesale)
  • Date range — Set start and end dates for time-limited promotions

Usage Limits

  • Total uses — Maximum number of times the discount can be used across all customers
  • Uses per customer — Maximum number of times a single customer can use the discount
  • One per order — Whether the discount can be combined with other discounts

Automatic Discounts

Discounts without a code are applied automatically at checkout when conditions are met. Use automatic discounts for ongoing promotions like "Free shipping on orders over $50" or "10% off for VIP customers".

Monitoring Discount Usage

On the discount detail page, view usage statistics: total uses, total discount amount given, and a list of orders that used the discount. This helps you measure the effectiveness of your promotions.

Deactivating Discounts

Set a discount's status to inactive to stop it from being used. Inactive discounts are not deleted — they remain in your records for reference. You can reactivate a discount at any time.
