Navigation Menus
Managing Navigation Menus
Navigation menus define the links that appear in your store's header and footer, helping customers browse your products and pages.
Menu Types
Cartly supports two primary menu locations:
- Header menu ā The main navigation in your store header. This is where customers expect to find links to collections, product categories, and key pages.
- Footer menu ā Links in the footer area. Typically includes legal pages (privacy, terms), about pages, and secondary navigation.
Creating Menu Items
Navigate to Online Store ā Navigation. Select the menu you want to edit and click Add Item. For each item, configure:
- Label ā The text displayed in the navigation (e.g., "Shop", "About Us")
- URL ā The link destination. You can link to collections, products, pages, blog posts, or external URLs.
Nested Menus
Create dropdown menus by nesting items. Drag a menu item slightly to the right to make it a child of the item above. Nested items appear as a dropdown when customers hover over the parent item. You can nest up to three levels deep.
Link Types
When adding a link, you can choose from:
- Collection ā Link to a product collection page
- Product ā Link to a specific product
- Page ā Link to a CMS page
- Blog ā Link to the blog or a specific blog post
- External URL ā Link to any URL outside your store
Reordering Items
Drag and drop menu items to reorder them. The order in the editor matches the order on your storefront. Top-level items appear from left to right in the header, and top to bottom in the footer.
Mobile Navigation
On mobile devices, the header menu automatically converts to a hamburger menu. Nested items are shown as expandable accordions. The menu is optimized for touch interaction with appropriate tap targets.
Best Practices
- Keep the header menu to 5-7 top-level items for clean navigation
- Use descriptive labels ā "Women's Clothing" is clearer than "Category 1"
- Place your most important collections in the header menu
- Use the footer for legal pages, contact, and secondary links
