Cartly Command Now Edits Your Theme

Tell Cartly Command what you want to change in your storefront, such as a dark header, a sticky header, a FAQ section or a low-stock message, and it makes the change on an AI draft of your theme. Every change passes the automatic theme check before you see it, you review the code and a before/after preview, and your live store changes only when you publish.

Most theme changes a store owner wants are small: a darker header, rounder buttons, a line under the price, a FAQ on the home page. Until now each one meant hunting for a setting, learning Liquid, or waiting for a developer. Starting today you describe the change to Cartly Command in your own words, and it makes the change for you.

Describe the change, in any language

Open your theme in the visual editor or the code editor and open Cartly Command with its button or ⌘J (Ctrl+J on Windows). Command knows which theme you are in, which page template you are looking at, and the section or file you have open. Type what you want the way you would say it to a designer, in the language you work in; the plan and the summary come back in the same language.

Not sure where something lives? Ask. “Where do I change the logo, and what size should the image be?” gets an answer in the chat, and nothing in your theme changes.

A task card before anything runs

Command answers a change request with a task card: the goal in your words, a short plan of two to four steps, and an estimate of the most the task can use, shown as a share of your monthly AI credits. Nothing is changed until you click Run. Put text you want shown word for word, such as a new footer line, in quotes: Command keeps it as written, and the theme check flags quoted text that shows up altered on the page. Check it in the preview before you publish.

The AI works on a draft, never on your live theme

When you click Run, Cartly makes a copy of your theme named <your theme> — AI draft, and the editor moves to it. Shoppers keep seeing your live theme the whole time. The card shows the progress: studying the theme, writing files, checking the theme, fixing what the check found. You can stop the task at any time (it ends after the current step) or close the tab; the task keeps running, and the card picks up where it was when you come back.

Every change is checked before you see it

Before a change is offered to you, it must pass the automatic theme check you can also run with Check theme in the code editor, with stricter rules for AI changes. A change that fails is fixed by the AI or thrown away. The check makes sure that:

  • the Liquid and JSON files are valid, and the pages the change affects still render with your real products and content;
  • every new piece of text exists in every language your theme supports;
  • no outside scripts, trackers or widgets are added, and nothing new loads from other sites except the web fonts Cartly allows (Google Fonts);
  • text you asked for in quotes is not shown altered on the page;
  • nothing you did not ask about is removed, such as a default text or a fallback;
  • no made-up content is added, such as invented reviews, testimonials or promises.

Review it your way

When the task finishes, the card shows a short summary of what changed and where to look, the files it created or changed, and the credits it used. From there:

  • Show code opens the code editor with an AI changes panel. Each file has a side-by-side diff, with the file as it is now on the left and after Accept on the right. Keep the files you want ticked and click Accept selected, or click Reject all.
  • Accept on the card applies the whole change to the AI draft, and Reject discards it.
  • Once a change is accepted, switch between Before and After in the visual editor to compare the draft with the theme it was made from (your live theme, if you started there) on any page, on desktop, tablet and mobile.

Want more? Ask for the next change. It goes into the same draft, and you can still edit the draft yourself in either editor.

Publish when you are ready, undo if you change your mind

While you are on the AI draft, the editor shows a banner with a Publish draft button. Publishing runs the theme check once more, saves a restore point, and makes the draft your store's theme. Your original theme stays in your theme library, unchanged. If the original theme has edits the draft does not have, the publish dialog tells you: those edits stay in the original.

Changed your mind? The publish dialog links to the Version history of the theme that was live before; restoring the version saved before the switch makes it your store's theme again. Version history also keeps a version from before each AI change you accept.

Requests that work well

  • “Make the header dark: near-black background with white text and icons.”
  • “Make all buttons fully rounded (pill shaped).”
  • “Replace the footer copyright text with ‘© 2026 Your Store. All rights reserved.’”
  • “On product cards, show the discount percentage (for example -20%) instead of the word Sale.”
  • “Make the header sticky when scrolling, on desktop and mobile.”
  • “On the product page, when fewer than 5 items are in stock, show ‘Only N left’ in red.”
  • “Let customers add an order note on the cart page.”
  • “Create a FAQ section with collapsible questions that I add as blocks, and put it at the bottom of the home page.”
  • “Add a ‘Size chart’ link on the product page that opens a table I can edit in the theme editor.”
  • “Add a testimonials section where each block has a quote, a name and a photo.”
  • “Make every section of the home page dark, with one setting to switch back to light.”

Some things are not part of a theme, and Command says so instead of guessing: payment methods and the checkout, apps, and changes to your products or other store data. It also does not add third-party tracking scripts or widgets to your theme.

Credits and plans

AI theme editing runs on the monthly AI credits included in every paid plan: 200 on Starter, 500 on Growth, 2,000 on Pro and 7,000 on Enterprise, also during the free trial. Cartly sets the estimate on the task card aside while the task runs, charges only what it actually used, and returns the rest. A stopped or unfinished task costs only the steps it already did. See the pricing page for plans and AI credits in your plan for how the balance works.
