Order notes and custom attributes

Notes and Details From Your Customers

Customers can leave information for you while they shop: an order note, and on some themes extra choices on the cart page, such as a gift note, a packaging preference or free samples. All of it is saved on the order.

The Order Note

The checkout has an order note field for things like delivery instructions. If your cart page has an order note field too, what the customer types there is saved with the cart and fills in the note at checkout, so they can review or change it before they pay. If they clear it at checkout, the order has no note.

On the order page in your admin, the note shows under Customer note.

If your theme has no note field on the cart page, you can ask Cartly Command to add one, for example: “Let customers add an order note on the cart page.”

Additional Details

Some themes collect more on the cart page. Balm, for example, offers a gift note, a no-outer-box option and free samples. These details are carried onto the order and shown in an Additional details block on the order page. Details Cartly knows get readable names, such as Gift note, No outer box and Free samples; any other detail is shown under the name the theme gave it. The block appears only when the order has such details.

Customers type these values themselves, so check them before you print anything from them on a package.

For Theme Developers

Themes save these details as cart attributes. An attribute named note is the order note: the checkout fills in its note field from it.
