Abandoned Cart Recovery

Overview

Abandoned Cart Recovery automatically emails customers who added items to their cart but did not complete checkout. A personalized email with a cart recovery link is sent after a configurable delay.

Enabling Abandoned Cart Recovery

  1. Go to Admin → Settings and find the Abandoned Cart Recovery section
  2. Toggle Enable Abandoned Cart Recovery to on
  3. Choose a Recovery Delay: 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, or 24 hours
  4. Save

The delay is the time after a customer's last cart activity before the recovery email is sent. Shorter delays (1–3 hours) typically have higher recovery rates because the purchase is still fresh.

Requirements

  • Email must be configured — Go to Settings → Email and connect your email provider before recovery emails can be sent
  • Customer email must be known — The customer must have entered their email during checkout or be a registered account holder

How It Works

  1. A customer adds items to their cart and starts (or visits) checkout but does not complete the purchase
  2. After the configured delay with no order placed, Cartly marks the cart as abandoned
  3. A recovery email is sent with a link that restores the exact cart contents
  4. If the customer clicks the link and completes checkout, the cart is marked as recovered

Recovery Email Content

The recovery email uses your store's transactional email template and includes:

  • The customer's first name (if available)
  • A summary of the items left in the cart
  • A direct link to return to checkout and complete the purchase

To customize the email template, go to Admin → Settings → Email Templates.

Monitoring Recovery

Recovery activity is visible in the Analytics → Conversion Funnel. Recovered carts count as completed checkout events, improving your funnel conversion rate.

Notes

  • Each abandoned cart receives at most one recovery email to avoid spamming customers
  • Customers who have unsubscribed from marketing emails are excluded
  • The recovery link expires after 7 days
