Restoring an earlier version of your theme

What Version History Keeps

Every theme in your library has its own version history. Cartly saves a version of the theme automatically:

  • before you publish changes from the visual editor on your live theme or an AI draft;
  • before you switch the live theme (the version is saved on the theme that was live);
  • before you restore an earlier version;
  • before you accept changes made by Cartly Command;
  • before you edit code in the code editor, at most once every 10 minutes.

The last 20 versions of each theme are kept. A version holds the theme files you had edited and the theme's design settings. Files you never edited always come from the theme itself.

Restoring a Version

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes, open the menu of the theme and click Version history. On an AI draft, the banner at the top of the editor has a Version history link too.
  2. Find the version you want. Each one says why it was saved, for example Before publishing from the visual editor, and how many edited files it holds.
  3. Click Restore and confirm.

The current state of the theme is saved as a new version first, so you can undo a restore from the same page.

Undoing a Theme Switch

Every version saved while the theme was your store's theme is marked Was live, including the one saved before a theme switch. If the theme is no longer live, restoring any of these versions makes it your store's theme again. This is also how you undo publishing an AI draft: open the version history of the theme that was live before, and restore the version saved before the switch.

Who Can Restore

Only the store owner or an admin can restore a version. A theme connected to GitHub cannot be restored here; change it in the repository instead.
