Paying for apps with PayPal
Paying for an App with PayPal
Paid apps in the App Store can be bought with PayPal when PayPal is available for your store. It works for apps with a one-time price and for apps billed monthly.
How It Works
- Open the app in the App Store inside your admin and start the purchase.
- In the purchase window, choose Pay with PayPal. The button shows the price. If you do not see it, PayPal is not available for your store yet; the window lists the payment methods you can use.
- Approve the payment at PayPal.
- PayPal sends you back to the app page. A one-time purchase is completed on that page straight away. A monthly subscription is switched on when PayPal confirms the first payment, so the page may say the payment is processing. Refresh it after a moment.
PayPal is pay-first: the app is not installed until the payment goes through. If you close PayPal without approving, nothing is charged and nothing is installed.
Apps That Need Authorizing
Some apps connect to your store through an extra authorization step. If the app page shows Authorize the app after you have paid, click it to finish connecting.
Cancelling a PayPal Subscription
A subscription paid through PayPal is cancelled at the end of the billing period. You keep access until then and you are not charged again. Cancel now with a prorated refund is not offered for PayPal subscriptions.
When a Payment Cannot Be Applied
If PayPal takes a payment that cannot be applied to an app, for example because you already own the app or the app was withdrawn from the App Store in the meantime, the payment is returned to you. Open Billing → Refunds to follow it. Each refund shows its status: Refund in progress, Refunded or Settled.
Fixing a Failed Card Payment
If you paid for an app by card and the last payment failed, the app page shows Update payment method. It opens the Stripe billing portal for that app subscription, where you can replace the card. Only the store owner or an admin can use it.
